Kabir and Mirabai’s works have encouraged people to look within, for answers. Their poetry instills the belief that fulfillment begins with a thorough search within ourselves, and to look outwards for gratification is a futile exercise. The essence of Bhakti gives shape to the songs of the Meghwal community. However, they are finding it difficult to sustain their livelihood upon the words of these songs alone. What lies at stake is 700 years of history.

Buwoti Nodir Dore, Like the flowing river

The traditional folk songs of the Sonowal Kachari tribe are being remixed the modern way in recording studios in the city leaving the members of the kachari tribe in the village, worried about the future of their cultural identity. The community has been recently exposed to the internet and the village is undergoing rapid transformation.

Will the next generation be willing to retain the core essence of the history of their community or will they dismiss it in turn for something they can relate to?


Saurangi, A hundred different colours

The Sarangi is a breathtaking instrument which is known to resonate with the listener’s inner voice. To learn this instrument means a lifelong journey of search within the vast ocean that is classical music.

A fulfilling practice; however, the history of this particular instrument has faced many challenges towards its survival.

At this moment in time, some players of the instrument are hopeful that the sarangi is ready to be heard again with the same fervour while some musicians are concerned whether the instrument can withstand the weight of the past.

L’expérience de ses fantômes, The sound of the ghosts

The sound documentary follows Eva, a Spanish tour guide living in Paris for the past 7 years. Eva conducts the Mysteries and Legends Tour every week in the heart of the city in Île Saint-Louis.

The tour traces the dark history of Paris, where she introduces her audience to the violence that consumed the city in the Middle Ages.

Through Eva’s undying passion for discovery, the piece invites the listener to see beyond what is mostly known of Paris today; asking them to patiently observe the city, and listen deeply to the sound of its ghosts.
